Roof Gable End Board

The rake can be smooth without the overhang or it can lift the gable end like an eave.

Make sure the ridge board sits level so your roof is straight. Use 3 nails per rafter so they are completely secured. After that you should fix the cornice board to the end sides of the ridge and the load bearing beams. Use larger rake boards such as 1 by 4 inch and 1 by 6 inch when there isn t an eave overhang on the gable end.

One by 2 inch rake boards often cover the exposed top edge of the siding when there also is an eave overhang on the gable end. Line up the top of the ridge board between the supports with the tops of the rafters. They may be mounted flash on the end wall or stood off on an overhanging framework with a soffit underneath.
